The Wreck Today: Because the Stone was salvaged, some of her machinery is missing.  Located on Grubb Reef, there is a boiler on the port side. The sides of the vessel have collapsed and most of the debris is on her port side. Notable features are her propeller, anchor chain and anchor. The rudder lays flat on the bottom. Fish are abundant on this wreck since there is often a slight current.  Save Ontario Shipwrecks (SOS) has placed a plaque and mooring on this site.
In 1997 SOS returned a number of artifacts to the George Stone and placed a monument commemorating sailors’ lost lives.  In 1999 a steel vessel was deliberately sunk next to the George Stone.  Winter ice has reportedly shifted it to a position against the starboard bow of the Stone.
Watch for snagged fish nets and heavy boat traffic.
