The Wreck Today: This two masted scow dates from the mid 1800’s. We believe it to be the Industry, which sank in 1874. The Industry was built in Port Rowan in 1848. She measured 71’6” x 17’6” x 5’6”. On August 22, 1874, a northeast wind was blowing as the Industry left Cleveland, Ohio. She carried a load of coal and was approximately 10 miles off Lorain, Ohio when she suddenly took on water. Captain D. Dues and crew abandoned the sinking scow and rowed for the Black River in the ships yawl boat . All arrived safely.
In conflict with this possibility are indications that this wreck may have had a fire on board.
